Mythology of Onkareshwar Temple

Hindu tradition holds that this temple was where the happy union of Usha, the daughter of Vanasur, and Anirudh, the grandson of Lord Krishna, took place. Another tale involving the temple is that of Mandhata, an emperor and (Lord Ram’s ancestor) who gave up all worldly pleasures and stood on one leg for 12 years as penance. After completing his penance, Lord Shiva appeared to him as Omkar (the sound of Om) and bestowed upon him blessings. The temple has been called as Omkareshwar
