History of Omkar Ratneshwar

The Omkar Ratneshwar temple is located in the village of Sari. It was built by the villagers in 1990 – 1992. There is a small story behind the temple: A person was farming at this place and found a Shivling in his field. He then started worshipping this Shivling and found good results in his life. Moreover, he saw something strange in his dream, which cannot happen in his life, but it happens. After that, he created the temple with the help of the villagers and they named it Omkar Ratneshwar.

About the place

The temple comes between the Deoriatal lake track. So each of visitor or tracker go to the temple and pray for healthy track. Each day morning and evening the villagers do Bhajan Keertan. So some of the tracker also enjoy that movement. Most of the time the Bhajan used to be in Local language which is Garhwali.

  • Littering near the temple and the valley is a punishable offence. Therefore, make sure you are responsible and do not litter this place.

  • If you are trekking to Deorial valley via Omkar Ratneshwar Mahadev temple, it is advisable to trek in a group and not alone. It is not advisable to venture near the valley alone at night as dangerous wild animals roam freely here.

  • Carry the required amount of cash with you. As this is a remote place, you will not have access to ATM here. The last ATM available area is near Ukhimath

  • Telephone signals will not work properly near this area, so it is advisable to make all important calls near Sari village.

By air

  • The nearest airport to Chopta is Jolly Grant Dehradun, which is about 180 km from Chopta.

By train

  • The nearest railway station from Chopta is Rishikesh, which is about 165 km from Chopta.

By car

  • Omkar Ratneshwar Mahadev temple is located on Ukhimath-Gopeshwar road, the temple up can be reached from Saari village by the 1 km trek.

Best time to visit

The best time to visit Omkar Ratneshwar Mahadev Temple is between the months of September to November and March to May. During these months, the journey here is most beautiful and pleasant. During the winter season, the weather here is cold. Due to heavy snowfall in the winter season, the temperature of here goes down a lot. Due to heavy rains in the rainy season, it is a bit difficult to travel here because heavy rains threaten landslides.
